Less Stress Back to School!
Whether it’s a new uniform, school books, or a new laptop or iPad, going back to school can be a huge expense. At Community Credit Union, we want to make it as easy as possible. Take a look below at some of our tips for saving money on back to school as well as information about our back to school and laptop loans.
Tips for Back to School Savings
Budget with your Kids
It’s never too early to start teaching your children about budgeting and back to school time is an ideal opportunity. Once you have your own budget worked out, sit down with the kids and explain about planning ahead for back to school. Ask them what school supplies they need for the year ahead and get them to write them down.
Teenagers are more likely to want the school shoes, backpacks, trainers etc. that are popular with their peers. Consider buying just one branded item for them and mixing this with generic items.
Shop with a List
Make use of the list you have made so that you don’t forget anything. Sticking to your list will also ensure that you don’t overspend.
Buy Second Hand
Don’t be afraid to buy second hand, especially school books as they tend to get thrown into bags, dumped into lockers and generally messed around, so there is no need to put yourself under pressure with buying them brand new. Check if your child’s school runs a book rental scheme where books can be rented at a fraction of the price of buying them new. There are also a lot of book shops that sell second hand school books, make sure to shop around for the best price. Parents may be selling their children’s old school books privately on Done Deal or Facebook so these places could be worth a look too!
