Community Credit Union are pleased now to announce that we have appointed Michael Branagan FCA BSc (Hons) as our new Chief Executive Officer. The process was a competitive and rigorous one which also needed Central Bank approval.
Michael brings a wealth of experience in financial services and ICT to the role. He has the following accomplishments under his belt:
- He is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland;
- He successfully ran a bank branch network across Ireland. Here he introduced significant new technology in that role and has been recognised as an online pioneer.
- He was a member of the Government’s Information Society Steering Committee which was set up to see how Ireland could best position itself to take advantage of the information age.
- He started his career as a bank official in the TSB Bank, based in the Artane branch.
These are unprecedented and challenging times for our members and staff alike. There is also great opportunity as the credit union movement moves forward with confidence embracing new technology to offer an even more comprehensive service to our members. In this regard we are very fortunate to get a candidate of Michael’s calibre and all that he brings to the role. His communication and staff management skills, allied to his technical knowledge and track record, give us every confidence that he can help guide the continued success of CCU.
On being appointed Michael said “I am hugely honoured to have been trusted with this exciting role. I very much look forward to meeting every member of staff and the committees over the coming weeks and working with them going forward. Similarly, I look forward to engaging with as many of the members as possible. I believe I can help Community Credit Union board and staff build on the wonderful work done to date in servicing our Members’ needs. The ‘not for profit’ ethos of the credit union movement means we are ideally positioned to provide ethical financial services to our members in a world where online banking is becoming a key requirement”.
I know I speak for all Members, Staff and the Board in wishing Michael every success in his new role.
