Our History

Community Credit Union

Community Credit Union was formed on 1st January 2010 through the merger of Clonsilla and Premier Credit Unions. This is the first merger in Ireland of two substantial Credit Unions and puts us at the forefront in this area of the development of the Irish Credit Union Movement.

In recommending this course of action to, and getting the approval of our members, we have followed international best practice and the recommendations of key stakeholders such as The Irish League of Credit Unions and the Financial Regulator.

Most importantly however, it has been driven by our members' needs. We have been listening to what you want and, in order to meet those needs, we needed to grow.

Following the merger we now have assets of over €70m and a membership that exceeds 22,000 people.

Premier Credit Union

Premier Credit Union was formed in 1962 to serve the community of the Parish of Navan Road & District. Here, years later our first premises was acquired in Villa Park and this was extended in the 1980’s to its current size of approximately 4,000 sq. ft.

Throughout our history we have sought continuous improvement which has led to new services, computerisation of many tasks and the development of a sub-office in Laurel Lodge in the late 1990’s which further spurred the growth in membership.

At the end of 2009, the total membership was just under 10,000 and total assets amounted to over €40m.

Clonsilla Credit Union

Clonsilla Credit Union was formed in 1982 and was initially based in a small bungalow on the Blakestown Road. Growth was steady in the subsequent years but an opportunity was identified with the development of the new Blanchardstown Centre in the 1990’s, and a new premises was acquired there at the end of that decade.

In its new home the Credit Union grew rapidly and at December 2009 its membership was over 12,000 and assets of over €32m were under its management.
